"The Three Careers of an Early-Career Researcher: Cognitive, Community, and Organisational (Or: “Das sind ja gleich drei Wünsche auf einmal…!” by Frigga Kruse.
Abstract:
The anecdotes and tips I want to share during this talk draw on my own experience as PhD student, Postdoc, Junior Research Group Leader, Vice-President of APECS (the Association of Polar Early-Career Scientists) 2014-5, and current Chair of the Polar Archaeology Network. Trust me, I’ve been there. To set the scene, check out Pope, Fugmann, & Kruse (2014; you can download it here: Link). Allen has gone on to become the Program Director for Polar Cyberinfrastructure at the NFS, and Gerlis is the Executive Secretary of the International Arctic Science Committee. We must have done something right in our ERC time. So tune in!

How to do a successful PhD at ROOTS? The PhD Introductory Workshop on July 13 offers a good start.
What is ROOTS exactly? How is ROOTS organized? What infrastructure does ROOTS offer? These are certainly questions that many new colleagues ask themselves. To answer them, the ROOTS Young Academy invites all new PhD students starting this summer to the PhD Introductory Workshop at the Kiel Kunsthalle on 13 July. All other members of ROOTS are invited as well to attend this event. The subclusters and platforms of ROOTS will each briefly introduce themselves and the new candidates will also present their PhD projects. During the breaks there will be opportunities to get to know each other and ask further questions.
We hope to see many of you at the Kunsthalle.
