Workshop: "Soothing Gardens: Ancient ideas and practices about plants, natural environments and well-being". The workshop is organised by Chiara Thumiger and Dana Zentgraf in the framework of the ROOTS Research Group "Gardens, Human Senses and Eudaimonia".
Abstract: This workshop aims at discussing gardens in ancient (mostly Greco-Roman) culture and practices, with particular attention to ideals of well-being and therapy, and focusing on concrete experiences and activities, from the subjectivity of sensorial experience (smelling, seeing and hearing in the pleasures a garden offers) to material aspects (e.g. recipes, ingredient trade and availability).
